MHS boys advance with win over K&Q

  

After posting a 76-37 win over King and Queen the opening round of the Conference 42 tournament Monday night, the Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team was scheduled to host Central of Lunenburg last night in the tournament semifinals.

The winner of that game will advance to the tournament championship game, which will be played on Friday evening at an as-yet-to-be-determined location.

Mathews ended its regular season on Feb. 7 with a 57-22 win over the same King and Queen Tigers they faced on Monday.

The Blue Devils’ leading scorer in that game was Ethan Armistead with 15 points. He was followed by Jarius Monroe with 13, Elijah Willis with 10, Jalen Matthews and Tylon Forrest both with seven, Jovan Johnson and Christian Williams with two points apiece, and Sawyer Hutson with one. Mathews finished the regular season with a record of 17 wins and five losses. JV Devils
