The Mathews High School indoor track and field team has been competing very successfully this season, with more than 20 participants.
“Our students have competed regularly at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton against teams from Virginia and North Carolina,” said MHS head coach Charles “Tony” Forrest.
With tournament time approaching in February, several athletes have qualified for the State Indoor Championships which will be held at Liberty University on Feb. 28-29.
The following athletes have qualified: sophomore Nora Suthard has qualified in the Long Jump and Triple Jump; sophomore Chance Higginbotham in the 3200m; junior Donovan Forrest in the 55mH and the 55m dash, Gavin Dustin in the 1600m, 1000m and as member of the 4 x 800 relay team; junior Seth James in 1600m and as a member of the 4 x 800m relay, and junior Keith Taylor in the triple jump and high jump and anchor for the 4 x 800 relay.
