The Gloucester High School varsity girls’ soccer team hosted Menchville Tuesday and fell, 3-1. The Monarchs scored in the first five minutes of the match, followed by another goal from a free kick 35 yards out.
After the half, the Lady Dukes picked up their attack and got a goal. As the ball bounced around inside the 18 yard box, junior Marranda Hansford tapped it into the air and senior Haley Hamilton finished it with a shot over the goalie to make it 2-1.
Although Gloucester picked up their play, they were unable to score any more points. Menchville scored its third and final goal of the game in the last five minutes of play.
Gloucester will face Maury at Powhatan Field today and travels to Hampton on Tuesday.
