Memorial Day services Sunday in Gloucester, Mathews

Memorial Day services will be held in Gloucester and Mathews on Sunday afternoon, held by the counties’ respective American Legion posts. The Mathews ceremony starts at 2 p.m., with the Gloucester program beginning an hour later.

Mathews Post 83 will host its annual Memorial Day program at the post home on Route 198 in Hudgins. State Sen. Lynwood Lewis (D-Accomac) is the guest speaker.

Following Lewis’s address, the post will honor members who have died in the past year with a Bell Ceremony and an Honor Guard salute with the playing of “Taps.”

Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony. The public is invited.

Lewis served in the House of Delegates from 2004 to 2014, representing Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
