Memorial Day programs to be held Sunday

Memorial Day will be marked locally with a pair of observances on Sunday afternoon in Gloucester and Mathews.

At 2 p.m., American Legion Post 83 in Hudgins will hold a brief outdoor service, including its Bell Ceremony, to honor departed comrades. After that program, the Post 83 Honor Guard will relocate to the Mathews Rotary Club’s “Flags for Heroes” display on Main Street. The public is invited to attend.

At 3, American Legion Post 75 will hold its regular service on the courthouse steps facing the Gloucester Veterans Memorial Wall. Capt. N.E. Merkle (USCG-ret.), the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Gloucester High School NJROTC program, will be the guest speaker. NJROTC cadets will serve as the color guard for the program.
