Memorial Day observances on Sunday, May 30, in Mathews and Gloucester, will be held by American Legion posts in the two counties.
In Mathews
The Mathews ceremony will be held first, at 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 83 in Hudgins. The brief outdoor service will include its Bell Ceremony to honor departed comrades. The public is invited to attend.
Free graveside U.S. flags will be available for pick-up. After the ceremony, the Post 83 Honor Guard will relocate to the Mathews Rotary Club’s “Flags for Heroes” display on Main Street to honor the veterans being recognized there. COVID-19 guidelines are requested, a release stated. A memorial wreath will be placed at the Liberty Square courts complex for the weekend.
In Gloucester
American Legion Post 75 will hold its regular Memorial Day service at 3 p.m. the same day on the courthouse steps facing the Gloucester Veterans Memorial Wall.
