Memorandum paves way for Mathews high-speed internet

Towers that will make it possible for all Mathews residents to have high-speed internet came a step closer to being a reality on Monday as Mathews County signed memorandums of understanding with the presidents of Mathews Volunteer Fire Department and Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The MOUs provide that the county will be allowed to prepare, construct, operate and maintain communication facilities and other improvements on property belonging to the two organizations, said Interim County Administrator Sandy Wanner. One of the towers will be at the MVRS building on Cricket Hill Road at Hudgins and the other will be at MVFD Station 2 on East River Road at Bohannon.

The county will retain the ownership of the towers and will provide monthly financial compensation to both the fire department and rescue squad for the use of their property, said Wanner.
