Melvin Tremain Marsh, 86, of North, entered into eternal life on Dec. 25, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth V. Marsh; parents, Theodore I. and Grace P. Marsh; five sisters, Frances Wallace, Murphy Roye, Annie Lockley, Bertha Billups, Corarine Smith, and his brother, Charles Marsh.

He attended Thomas Hunter School in Mathews. He was a member of Rising Valley Baptist Church since the age of 13 and was Chairman of Deacons there for 24 years. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Elmington Plantation in Gloucester for more than 50 years before his retirement.

He is survived by his children, Johnny T. Marsh (Lyndall), Michael A. Marsh, Regina A. Burrell, James E. Marsh Sr., Curtis M. Marsh, Dwight S. Marsh and Joseph E. Marsh; one sister, Jessie Lee Diggs; one brother, Samuel L. Marsh; one sister-in-law, Laura E. Marsh; one brother-in-law, Andrew Billups, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Rising Valley Baptist Church, 10172 John Clayton Memorial Highway, Gloucester. Burial was in the church cemetery.
