Melba “Alvine” Foster Brown, age 89, of King and Queen, formerly of Glenns, Va., died on Feb. 14, 2026 at Walter Reed Post Acute Center in Gloucester. She was born on Sept. 21, 1936 in Deltaville, Va., to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Foster Sr. Alvine was a beautician by trade and she and her very dear friend, Joyce Hogge, owned and operated A and J Beauty Shop in Hayes for many years. After retiring from her business, she devoted herself full-time to owning and operating the B-Bar-B Ranch at Glenns with her husband, Charles, and son, Jeff.
Alvine was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Charles R. Brown; her parents, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Jeffery Dean Brown of King and Queen; granddaughter, Kristen Kay Brown of Petersburg, Va.; many nieces and nephews, and a host of many dear friends.
Alvine loved her Lord and her greatest joys in life were being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Alvine was a member at Forest Chapel UMC, where a memorial service will be held on March 1 at 1 p.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
