Meetings held this week to consider post offices’ fate

An in-house study to determine the fate of several local post offices has officially begun. United States Postal Service officials were available earlier this week at a series of community meetings to provide more information and answer customers’ questions about the study.

Post offices under review include Grimstead, Onemo and New Point in Mathews County and Schley in Gloucester County.

Community meetings were held for patrons of each of the post offices earlier this week, including meetings Tuesday at Singleton United Methodist Church for the Schley post office customers and the Gwynn’s Island Civic Center for the Grimstead post office customers.

Meetings were held Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church for the Onemo postal customers and Beulah United Methodist Church for the New Point customers.

Cindy Wheeler, post office review coordinator for the Richmond district said the community meetings are only part of the overall study.
