Meeting Tuesday on Mathews comp plan

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold a joint public hearing Tuesday on the final draft of the five-year review of the county’s comprehensive plan. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the historic courthouse on Court Street.

Planning staff and commission members, assisted by the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, have been engaged in a state-mandated review of the comprehensive plan for the past year or more. Many of the changes have been related to updating statistical data such as population, income, housing and employment, as well as to reflecting local, state and federal regulatory changes that have occurred since the comprehensive plan was completely updated in 2011.

The plan also provides analyses of the county’s current conditions, economic trends, projects undertaken to improve employment opportunities, and future objectives and development strategies for the county.
