Meeting tonight on restoring Red Cross in Mathews

Two Red Cross officials are expected to attend a town hall tonight at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins, about restoring the organization’s services in Mathews. The meeting starts at 7 o’clock.

They are James Flynn, a disaster program manager, and Candee Pevahouse of Kilmarnock, a community volunteer leader.

The meeting is hosted by the Ruritan club with sponsorship from the Mathews County Resources Council. Rhoda-Jo Stress, MCRC head, said Mathews has been placed in the Rappahannock Region, headquartered in Fredericksburg, in a recent reorganization of the Red Cross.

Stress said residents will be able to obtain information about Red Cross services available in Mathews County.

The local Red Cross chapter lost its charter in 2000 after first being organized in 1918.
