Meeting the community

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 64 of Gloucester held a “Meet the Community” event Saturday at the Gloucester Walmart. Members reminded the public of the requirement for boat and personal watercraft operators to have a safe boating course this year. Members met with residents, handed out coloring books, and scheduled vessel safety checks, which are a free service of the Auxiliary. The Gloucester flotilla celebrates 35 years in action and is commanded by John Laroche. The group will offer its first “About Boating Safely” course of the year Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad Station #3, Hayes. To register or to receive more information, contact Dick Price at 684-0730, 757-291-5207 or rprice11@cox.net. Additional classes will be offered each month through September.
