Meeting next week on proposed solar farm

Strata Solar, LLC, will accept public comments about its proposed solar energy facility at a meeting starting at 1:30 p.m. next Thursday, Nov. 2, at Gloucester Library, Main Street Center.

Strata has received a Conditional Use Permit from the county to proceed with plans to construct a solar farm on a 203-acre tract of land on Route 14 near Toddsbury Lane. However, Kevin Day, vice president of development for Strata, said that the Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based company still needs permission from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to proceed with the project.

Before DEQ can formally review the strata application, Strata must hold the Nov. 2 meeting to receive comments, Day said. Also, the company has been required to hold a 30-day public comment period from Oct. 16-Nov. 15 so written comments about the project can be collected.
