Anyone with knowledge of old buildings or sites of interest in Mathews County is invited to attend a meeting next week on two upcoming grant-funded projects in Mathews County—one a survey of architectural sites and the other an assessment of potential archaeological sites.
The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building on Cricket Hill Road in Hudgins.
Forrest Morgan of the Mathews County Historical Society said his organization and other local groups are interested in obtaining information on properties that should be recognized as part of Mathews County’s history.
Such properties might include old houses, stores, churches, restaurants, wharves, docks, maritime warehouses, race tracks or any previously unidentified structures or sites in the county.
"We want to know from the community what to look for," said Morgan, adding that pictures might be helpful in identifying sites.
