Meeting Monday on Main Street transportation study

The Virginia Department of Transportation and Gloucester County will hold a public meeting Monday to present findings on the Route 17 Business corridor transportation study.

The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the colonial courthouse. VDOT spokesperson Kelly Hannon said the meeting will include a formal presentation at 5:30.

Representatives from VDOT and HNTB Consultants will discuss some of the recommendations that surfaced following a public meeting last year.

Comments gathered at that meeting will be used to develop potential solutions which could include walking lanes, sidewalks and other multimodal accommodations, VDOT officials said.

The study area includes a 2.5-mile long section of Route 17 Business from 17 Bypass South (near entrance to Fox Mill Center) to 17 Bypass North (by Newington Baptist Church).
