Meeting Friday on channel markers

Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Montross) is expected to discuss concerns about the removal of some aids to navigation by the U.S. Coast Guard as well as the lack of dredging projects in local waterways during a meeting at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Piankatank Ruritan Club, Hudgins.

Markers were recently removed from Davis Creek and Hole in the Wall because shoaling has made the channels unsafe, according to officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, which maintains the aids to navigation.

Del. Keith Hodges (R-Urbanna) and representatives of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Coast Guard are expected to attend, as well as members of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors. ...
