Andy Harris has joined the staff of Morningstar Marinas facility near Hudgins as a mechanic. Harris said he is certified in Yamaha, Mercury and MerCruiser engines.

General manager Tina Minor said she is excited because Harris brings a lot of industry certification to his post, something that the marina’s previous mechanic did not.

At Morningstar, Harris handles general boat repair and engine repair. He provides winterization and start-of-season boat maintenance, handles all types of mechanical work, and related jobs.

Harris has more than 25 years’ boat repair experience. Most recently, he worked 16 years at Norview Marina in Deltaville, and previous was employed by two marinas in Richmond.

In high school, Harris drove a tow truck and also did some minor automotive repair. Later, he offered to help fix a friend’s boat—something a marina owner said he could not accomplish. But Harris proved the owner wrong—and was offered a job there.
