MCVIC continuing renovation of its Sibley’s Store location

The Mathews County Visitor & Information Center is seeking donations to meet its 2012 goals for continuing renovation of its space, the historic Sibley’s Store on Main Street.

Amanda Taylor, chairman of MCVIC’s administrative board, noted that 2012 has been a year of achievement. The facility has become certified by the Virginia Tourism Corporation as a tourist center; it completed The Chesapeake Room with help from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; produced a new kayak trail guide, provided handicap access to the center, co-hosted the Tour de Chesapeake, reroofed the Victorian portion of the building, installed gutters and downspouts, and will sponsor the Christmas tree lighting and parade.

Goals for next year, Taylor said, include paying off the mortgage one year early; acquiring a touch-screen information center; painting the exterior and some of the interior; and plan a use for the second floor.
