MCPS holds opening day convocation

Mathews County Public Schools employees were welcomed back Wednesday morning for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. Teachers, administrators and support staff gathered this week for the opening day convocation at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.
“What a summer it has been,” Superintendent Dr. David S. Daniel wrote in an Aug. 5 letter to employees. “I’m sure you are aware that there was no rest in our schools this summer. Many of you will be entering or returning to spaces with freshly painted walls as well as new LED lights, ceiling tiles, and possibly new floor tiles. Four bathrooms have been remodeled with updated floors, walls and fixtures. Parking lots, chilled water lines and hot water lines are all getting some needed attention too.
