The Mathews County Democratic Committee has canceled its annual fundraising Crab Steam, which had been scheduled to take place on Sept. 18 at Williams Wharf.

A notice from co-chair Chris Bridge said this cancellation is in line with actions taken by other groups in light of rising COVID-19 infection rates.

“We are very disappointed that this decision was necessary and will refund ticket payments and sponsorships for those who ask,” Bridge wrote. “We will make an extensive effort to communicate this change in plans through media and personal calls.
