Maury Raymond McElligott Sr., age 92, of Hayes, passed away peacefully on Nov. 19, 2022 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center. Raymond (Mac) retired from the Naval Weapons Station in 1985 after 35 years of service. Not content to sit at home, he worked at Gloucester Cleaners and later at Enterprise Car Rentals where he was able to combine two of his favorite pastimes, driving and meeting people. Raymond and Betty enjoyed many wonderful trips with friends and were especially fond of camping trips in their RV. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McElligott, and his parents, John (Jack) McElligott and Lettie Jenkins. Survivors include his daughter, Yvonne Scales (Allen); son, Ray McElligott Jr. (Nancy); grandchildren, Anthony Coates, Andrew McElligott, Dawn McElligott, Belinda Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Austin Coates, Jacob McElligott, Carter Hayes, Carson McElligott, Lyman Hayes, Preston Hudgins and Leta Rhodes. A funeral service conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, followed by interment in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
