Maurice William West, 83, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Born on December 25, 1942, Maurice lived a full and devoted life centered on family, craft, and community. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Powell-West. Maurice is survived by his daughter, Helen-Marie Powell; his son, David West, and his stepson, Wayne Powell. He also leaves behind a legacy carried on by his 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. A passionate culinary professional, Maurice dedicated more than 50 years to the art of cooking, ultimately earning the distinguished title of Master Chef.

His skill, discipline, and love for the craft left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of experiencing his work. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 6-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery, 1228 Dan River Church Road, Halifax, Va. 24558, conducted by Dr. John Campbell, on Monday, May 4, 2026 at noon with military honors. Maurice will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his lifelong pursuit of excellence, and the warmth he shared through both his professional and personal life.
