Mathews volleyball comes back with a win

After having a week off from games, the Mathews High School varsity volleyball team returned to the court in dominating fashion to pick up a win against King William Tuesday night. The Lady Devils won in three sets, by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17.

Hannah Rowe and Kai McCann led the team with six kills each, followed by Jacqueline Stewart and Kayla Carter having three each. Anna Hudgins, Sophie Bandurco, Madison South, Morgan Driskell, Mariah Robinson and Allison Foster each had one kill. Stewart led the team in aces with four, Rowe had three and Whitney Eriksen added two. McCann, Keely Crittenden, Kelly Adams and Hudgins had one ace a piece.

McCann had four digs, followed by Hailey Abernathy, Rowe, Hudgins and Crittenden with three apiece. Eriksen, Stewart, and Adams each had two defensive digs, and Robinson had one. Bandurco led the team with 10 assists, while Stewart, Crittenden and Robinson had two each. Rowe, McCann and Foster each had one assist.

 

 

JV volleyball wins

The jayvee volleyball team also defeated King William in straight sets on Tuesday, winning by 25-16 and 25-23 margins. Leading the team with kills was Stacy Abernathy having four, followed by Harley Haydon with two, and Sabrina Barrack and Olivia Gwynn each with one.

Josey Bauby led the team with five aces, followed by Abernathy with four. Barrack and Alexis Miles aced off two and Gwynn had one. Gwynn had six assists, and Emily Carmine and Barrack had one each.

The Lady Blue Devils will host King and Queen tonight, with the jayvee game starting at 6 and the varsity contest beginning immediately after.
