Mathews VA250 to hold poster contest

Mathews County VA250 is sponsoring a poster contest to run the month of February to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The theme for the competition is “What It Means to Me to be an American.” The contest is open to all Mathews students between the ages of 12 and 18. Entries are to be two-dimensional, 18” x 24” and can be in any medium. Rachel Morris at Mathews High School and the Bay School Community Arts Center will accept artwork from Feb.1-28. All entries will be on display at the Bay School the first week in March. An awards reception will be held on Friday, March 6, when prizes will be presented. The first-place award is $250; the second is $100, and the third-place award is $50. The Education Committee of Mathews County VA250 will judge the event.
