Mathews track teams have busy spring

The Mathews High School boys and girls track teams are heading toward post-season competition, with one more meet before the district and conference tournaments.

The squads kicked off their season on March 19 at King William High School. Notable performances for the girls were Ellie Gale who came in second in the 100m hurdles in 18.98 seconds; Brittanie Boyd, who placed third in the girls’ 100m dash in 14.31, and Maria Spadaccini, who won the girls’ 400m dash with a time of 1:12.

For the boys’ side, Jesse Ingram came in first in the 100m dash, Tommy Mayo won the 1600m run with a time of 5:30, Sam Jasinski won the 800m with a time of 2:16, and Justin Adams won the 3200m run with a time of 10:17.

The Blue Devils then traveled to Charles City on March 28 for the Charles City Invitational. A noteworthy performance for the girls was Rileigh Betz who placed third in the 100m hurdles posting a time of 18.95. For the boys, Cody Kelly placed fourth in triple jump with a mar...
