The Mathews High School track and field teams competed at their first indoor meet in last weekend’s Gloucester High School Pre-Holiday Invitational at Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

Competing against over 40 schools, the Blue Devils did exceptionally well in the meet. Notable performances by the girls included the 4x800m relay (Maddy Ho-

bert, Tiffany Condron, Lizzie Stokes and Lauren Bland), who posted a time of 12:18; eighth grader Jasyn Hall, who won the girls’ middle school 1,600m run with a time of 6:14; Rileigh Betz, who placed seventh in the high school 1,600m run with a time of 5:59, and Andie Schlosshan, who placed second in shot put with a throw of 31 feet 1.5 inches which qualified her for the state meet. For the boys, Jordan Jenkins placed 11th in the 3,200m run with a time of 11:24, Jerry Valez placed third in middle school shot put with a throw of 24 feet, and Justin Adams placed third in the 3,200m run with a state-qualifying time of 10:15....
