Mathews track takes third in district meet

The regular season has ended for the Mathews High track team, and the post-season championship run began May 15, at West Point High School with the Tidewater District championship meet.

Against the West Point Pointers, Middlesex Chargers, King William Cavaliers, and King and Queen Tigers, both Mathews boys and girls took home third overall, with the boys getting 116 points, falling short of second-place King William (123 points), and first-place Middlesex, (129); while the girls got 82 points, falling behind a close call between West Point (139 points) and King William, who took the win with 140 points.

To qualify for the regional tournament, an athlete had to place in the top six.
