Mathews to welcome HistoryMobile, hold monument rededication

A couple of Civil War-related events are coming up in Mathews this month, starting today with a visit by the Civil War 150 HistoryMobile.

The 18-wheeled walk-through museum will be pulling into Thomas Hunter Middle School and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to the HistoryMobile is free.

An initiative of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the Civil War Commission, the HistoryMobile contains a high-tech immersive experience detailing Virginia’s incomparable place in Civil War history. The exhibits were designed through a partnership between the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania National Battlefields Park and the Virginia Historical Society and examine Virginia’s Civil War history from the viewpoints of soldiers, civilians and slaves.
