Mathews tennis defeats Bruton

The Mathews High School tennis team continued its winning streak last Wednesday, rolling over 2A Bruton High School by a score of 8-1 to bring the Lady Devils’ overall record to 5-0.

To start the match, top-seeded Morgan Johnson quickly crushed Leanne Troutman, 6-1, 6-1, using consistent strokes. Ashley Hudgins, at number two, remained focused throughout her match against Natalie Cross and won, 6-1, 6-2.

At number three, Rachel Stewart fought hard to beat Helen McCarthy. After losing the first set, 7-5, she improved her strategy to win the second set, 6-2. During the third set super tie-breaker, Stewart took charge and won, 10-2.

Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Maddie Brown breezed through her match against Olivia Garcia, winning 6-1, 6-1. Mathews earned another victory, 6-4, 6-2, from Emma Wood, number five, who executed a stellar match win against Ashley Ivanoff.
