Mathews supervisors entertain budget requests

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors began its FY 2021-2022 budget adoption process last month and has already held two meetings on it, with a third scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 3.

The step-by-step process has so far included a Jan. 13 meeting at which county departments and constitutional officers presented their budget needs for the coming year, which begins on July 1, followed by a Jan. 27 meeting for outside agencies to discuss their needs and for the public to offer comments.

A joint meeting with the Mathews County School Board was canceled, but representatives of the two boards agreed to meet via Zoom and discuss the school system’s budget request.

Wednesday’s scheduled 1 p.m. meeting was a work session at which supervisors, with everyone’s needs in hand, were slated to discuss their own budget goals.
