Mathews students compete in FIRST Robotics Regional Competition

Rocket Sauce, a robotics team sponsored by the Mathews High School and the Mathews Boys and Girls Club, participated in last weekend’s FIRST Robotics 2013 Virginia Regional Competition, which was held on Friday and Saturday at the Siegel Center in Richmond.

Due to a technical violation with the robot, the team was disqualified for two matches, which put it out of contention. Otherwise, the robot performed well and the team was satisfied, a team spokesperson said.

More than 60 teams from across the country participated in the Richmond competition called "Ultimate Ascent." FRC is an international competition conducted annually and sponsored by major corporations such as Booz Allen Hamilton, NASA, Bechtel, SAIC and Lockheed Martin. Virginia Regional sponsors included NASA Langley Research Center and the Virginia Commonwealth University Engineering Department.
