Mathews seniors seeking to live independently form committee

A group of senior citizens in Mathews, hoping to age in their homes, have formed a committee to explore the possibility of developing a program in the county to help them do so. The PATH program (People Aging in Their Homes) is seeking to fill a gap in the ability of local agencies to provide services to these seniors.

The committee, which is chaired by Art Miller, will introduce the PATH program to Mathews residents in a meeting at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday, April 26, at Kingston Parish House, 370 Main Street in Mathews.

Paul Vanden Bout will explain the proposed PATH program and will answer questions after his presentation, a release said.

Although Mathews is not designated a “retirement” community, the release stated, many retirees have chosen to live out their senior years in the county, and they hope to remain in their homes rather than moving in with a child or into a nursing home.
