Mathews seeks new county attorney

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors is seeking a new county attorney. The board issued a request for qualifications for legal services last month, and has received four responses, said County Administrator Mindy Conner. She is currently working on scheduling a special board meeting for interviews.

The deadline for paperwork for the RFQ was Aug. 31, and the closing date was Sept. 7.

The law firm Sands Anderson in Richmond currently provides the county’s legal services. Sands Anderson’s contract is for hourly services, provided by attorney Andrew R. McRoberts. During McRoberts’ tenure, the board has not chosen to require his attendance at every board meeting because of the cost involved, said Conner, adding that the position will still be paid on a contracted hourly basis.
