To make up some of the missed class time as a result of the coastal flooding that impacted the county earlier this month, Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) will be a school day in Mathews.
That day had initially been scheduled as a day off for students and faculty. That was before flooding caused the cancellation of classes on both Oct. 5 and 6, as well as an early dismissal on Oct. 2 and a late opening on Oct. 7. Superintendent Nancy B. Welch said that the division has enough bank time to cover the remaining lost instructional hours.
