Mathews schools receive state accreditation

Based on academic achievement, graduation rates and low dropout numbers, all three Mathews County schools received state accreditation for the 2022-2023 school year.

Division assistant superintendent Lesley Hunley gave a report on the accreditation process during Tuesday’s monthly meeting of the Mathews County School Board, held in the Mathews High School media center.

In the area of academic performance, all schools met the required percentages of students either passing their SOL tests or, in the case of students with failing grades, demonstrating sufficient progress over previous assessments.

At Mathews Elementary, the combined pass/improvement rate was 91.34 percent in English and 97.84 percent in math for the 2021-2022 academic year.
