Mathews schools look to build upon past successes

With a new superintendent (Nancy B. Welch), assistant superintendent (Lesley R. Hunley) and new high school principal (Dr. Toni Childress), Mathews County Public Schools look forward to the coming academic year with a renewed enthusiasm. The county’s three building principals put together some thoughts in anticipation of the Sept. 8 opening day:

Lee-Jackson Elementary School—Drew Greve, principal; Cindy Gray, assistant principal.

We are really looking forward to an exciting year at Lee-Jackson Elementary School. We’ve experienced double-digit gains in our reading scores during the past school year, and continue to enjoy tremendous success in the other core subjects of math, social studies, and science. We are extremely fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff to maximize the limitless potential of our students.
