Mathews school system achieves full accreditation

The Mathews County public school system has achieved full accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

School board members, administrators and others from the community received the official news during an oral exit report delivered on March 16 at a special school board meeting in the Mathews High School auditorium.

James Brown, retired deputy superintendent of schools from Tallahassee, Fla., who chaired the five-member quality assurance review team, reviewed the accreditation process and spoke of his team’s initial conclusions.

In this process, individual schools and divisions are assessed on seven standards—vision and purpose, governance and leadership, teaching and learning, documenting and using results, resources and support systems, stakeholder communications and relationships, and commitment to continuous improvement.
