Mathews School Board to hold town hall tonight

The Mathews County School Board will give the public a chance to sound off on school issues at a town hall meeting, which will begin at 6 o’clock tonight, Thursday, Feb. 29, in the J. Murray Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School.

Right before the town hall, at 5 p.m. in the same location, the school board will hold a special meeting to adopt the division’s 2024-2025 budget. Originally, adoption of the budget had been planned for the board’s regularly scheduled Feb. 20 meeting, but action on the budget was postponed at that time.

Town hall meeting

School board chair Dr. Mari Gibbs will facilitate the town hall meeting. Each Mathews County citizen who wishes to speak will have the opportunity to approach the podium, singly, to ask a question. Each speaker will be asked to provide his or her name and address before addressing the board.

Questions should be kept to a maximum of two minutes. Questions should not pertain to personnel or individual student matters. Sch...
