Mathews runners win at RCC

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both won in competition against Lancaster and Middlesex last week at Rappahannock Community College, Glenns.

The MHS girls combined for a score of 26 points, beating Lancaster by 16 and Middlesex by 24 points. Leading the way for MHS was the young JV runner Ellie Armistead, who in 24:32. Following closely was sophomore Rileigh Betz who placed third in 25:21. In fifth place was sophomore Reilly Price with a time of 25:27. Right behind her was sophomore Emma Hudgins who placed sixth with a time of 25:27.

Rounding out the top five for Mathews and placing seventh overall was freshman Skylar Lewis with a time of 26:45. Other notable performers included sophomores Alyssa Curko and Maddy Hobert who placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
