Mathews runners improve to 8-0

Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at Lancaster High School against Northumberland and the host Red Devils during the past week.

The two Mathews teams did exceptionally well, as both the boys and girls dominated the competition with wins over both schools, putting their own season records at 8-0.

The girls had a stellar performance from young Ellie Armistead who won the meet with a time of 21:34, and right behind her was sophomore Rileigh Betz with a time of 22:29.

The boys had a one-two punch from senior Justin Adams and junior Jalen Thomas posting times of 16:56 and 18:18, respectively.

Yesterday, the teams hosted a home meet at Beaverdam Park against Northumberland, Rappahannock and West Point. ...
