Mathews residents Nathan and Sarah Lowe and their friend and business colleague Kyle Ellis of Toano have established a new business, Baseline Home Inspection.
The company provides residential and commercial inspections for real estate sales throughout the region, from the Northern Neck to Hampton Roads, and from Mathews to Richmond.
The inspections are “top to bottom,” said Nathan Lowe, including plumbing, electric, and HVAC from the attic to the crawl space. Inspectors even use drones for aerial inspection of the roof and infrared cameras to detect hot spots in electrical panels and moisture and mold in the walls. They can also read heat signatures off HVAC registers to determine if the heating system is functioning properly.
The service is available not just for prospective home buyers, but also for those pre-listing a property for sale, so the seller can be aware of any safety issues or deficiencies before putting their property on the market.
The company offers discounts to first-time homeowners, veterans, and first responders.
Lowe said both he and Ellis, who is president of the company, are new home certified by the state and are licensed and insured.
“We kind of do it all,” he said.
A Massachusetts native, Ellis has been in Virginia for five years. He has 20 years’ experience as a facilities and construction manager for a national corporation, responsible for finding and purchasing properties and managing the construction of new facilities.
Nathan Lowe built custom homes for 10 years before going into the fire service, where he has had a 13-year career as a professional firefighter/paramedic.
Sarah Lowe has been with the same company as Ellis for 25 years, working for him for the past five years, gaining experience in the real estate facility market. Prior to that, she was an accounting supervisor.
The new business doesn’t yet have a website, but can be found on Facebook at Baseline Home Inspection.
