Mathews residents criticize planned street improvements

Two Mathews residents, speaking at the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday, took aim at further proposed improvements to Mathews Main Street.

Susan Krista told the board that she was concerned about the impact on such vehicles as delivery trucks, fire trucks, ambulances and farm equipment if changes are made to Main Street as proposed in the preliminary design document available on the Mathews Main Street website.

She questioned the possible widening of the sidewalk all the way to Hyco Corner; she added that bump-outs that are proposed on both sides of the entrance to the funeral home and both sides of the entrance to Food Lion would make it difficult for such vehicles to enter and exit Food Lion.
