Mathews County School Board members Linda Hodges, John Priest, Jeanice Sadler, Desmond Smith and Bambi Thompson, along with Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch, took part in the Virginia School Boards Association Legislative Advocacy Conference, which was held as a hybrid event with attendees meeting both virtually as well as in person on Sept. 24.
The purpose of the conference was to offer participants the opportunity to learn about upcoming issues for the 2022 legislative session and learn about hot topics in education. Some of the highlights included a “Presentation on Civility in a Divided Community” by Chip Slaven, Interim Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National School Boards Association, and a talk on “Federal Relief Dollars: Making Wise Investments for the Future” with Michael Maul from the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget.
