A 75-year-old Mathews County resident has been arrested and charged with abduction, sexual battery, and other crimes allegedly involving an 8-year-old child.

According to a press release from the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s emergency communications center received a call on Sunday from the 2300 block of Buckley Hall Road in reference to the incident.

Investigators conducted several interviews and identified the suspect as 75-year-old Leroy Dutton McKenney, said the release. McKenney is listed on the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry for cases dating back to 1995.

Sheriff’s office investigators conducted a search of the residence and recovered evidence related to the incident, said the release.
