Mathews receives several emergency services grants

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors during its June 27 meeting heard a report from Mathews County Emergency Services Coordinator Willie Love about various emergency services grants.

Love told the board that he had worked on five Federal Emergency Management Agency grants to help fund various emergency services activities in the county. Three of the grants have been approved, the money has been expended, and the county is waiting for reimbursement, he said.

Two of the approved grants are Local Emergency Management Performance grants in the amount of $15,000, including a $7,500 match from the county, one each for 2015 and 2016. The first paid for an emergency standby generator for the transportation office at Mathews High School to fuel county vehicles in emergency situations, while the second supplements Love’s salary.
