Mathews planners look at updating county’s comp plan

The Mathews County Planning Commission, meeting on Tuesday night, included a lengthy discussion concerning required revisions and updates to the county’s comprehensive plan. Chairman Billy Cook introduced former longtime planning commission member Danette Machen, who was there to share information with current members about the process used for updating the plan during the nearly two decades that she served on the commission. Machen told the commissioners that people in the county “need to have a stake in the process” of rewriting the document, which is mandated by the state and offers a long-range vision for future land use, development, and public infrastructure in the county. “There’s nothing more important to the citizens than their property,” said Machen.
