Mathews picks up forfeit win over Amelia

On a week where the Mathews High School varsity football team had a bye, the Blue Devils still managed to pick up a win.

The Devils’ record improved to 4-5 after the team’s opening game loss to Amelia was erased because the Raiders had an ineligible player on the squad, according to MHS head coach Paul White.

Amelia had to forfeit its 26-19 win against Mathews and a 34-13 victory over Nottoway because of the ineligible player.
Mathews will end its regular season on Friday, when the Devils host the Middlesex Chargers, starting at 7 o’clock. Mathews beat the Chargers, 51-14, on Sept. 3 in a game that did not count in the Tidewater District standings.

Middlesex currently holds a 1-8 record, with the team’s lone win coming last Friday against King and Queen.
