Mathews Outdoor Club planning plenty of summer fun

Kat Sharp (center), Mathews Outdoor Club secretary, exits transition for the run leg of the Mathews Micro Tri Series last year, cheered on by Jake Johnson (left) and Ron Myers.

The Mathews Outdoor Club is a brand-new 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to powering outdoor activities and promoting local sports tourism. This summer, the group has several outdoor activities planned that can be enjoyed by anyone at any skill level for both locals and tourists.

“Our focus is strictly outdoors,” said Mathews Outdoor Club president Christine Johnson.

The club’s first summer event is the Mathews Micro Tri Series—a micro triathlon ideal for not only beginners, but also experienced competitors wanting to practice their transitions between activities. The series consists of a 0.2-mile open water swim, an eight-mile bike ride and a two-mile run. The triathlons will take place on June 5, July 10, July 31 and Aug. 21 at Williams Wharf. The cost is $22 to participate.
