Mathews opening day convocation to be held Aug. 25

Teachers, aides, bus drivers, custodians and other employees at Mathews County Public Schools will be welcomed back for the 2015-2016 school year at the school division’s annual opening day convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The program will be held at 11 a.m. in Mathews High School’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium. School board chairman Ginger Richards and O.J. Cole, chairman of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors, will deliver greetings from their respective boards.

Tom Holaday, a stand-up comedian who is a former MHS teacher/coach, will be the guest speaker.

Following the program, the employees will gather in the high school cafeteria for lunch. Tuesday, Sept. 8 is the first day of the school year. ...
